Professor Dr. CHENG Ming Yu is currently a Professor at the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM), Director of the Institute of Management and Leadership Development (IMLD) and Chairperson of the Belt and Road Strategic Research Centre (BRSRC) at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia. She is a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Hong Kong Research Center for Asian Studies (RCAS), Hong Kong. Prof. Cheng works on a number of projects related to economic development, particularly social capital, globalisation, human capital development and competitiveness studies. Her recent interests are in science & technology and industry linkages, STEM education and socio-economic aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as the Belt and Road Initiative. Prof. Cheng was a fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship, Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Washington State University, USA, Research Fellow at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, Singapore and Visiting Professor at National Taiwan University, Taiwan. In 2011, Prof. Cheng was honoured as a Young Global Leader (YGL) of the World Economic Forum. This honour is bestowed by the World Economic Forum each year to recognise the most distinguished young leaders nominated below the age of 40 from around the world.
