Abstract
Fresh and waste vegetable oils are used as binders in the construction industry instead of cement or clay. In this study, polysaccharides were blended into fresh and waste vegetable oil to function as a binder to produce a tile. Ten different combinations of oil–polysaccharide binders were prepared using ethyl cellulose, glutinous rice flour, potato starch and corn starch. The main raw materials for the tile are fly ash 20%, river sand 70% and oil–polysaccharide 10%. The tile composed of waste vegetable oil with ethyl cellulose showed good mechanical properties, durability and permeability compared with other oil–polysaccharide binders, making it suitable as a decorative floor tile.
