Abstract
The Malaysian government has acknowledged the importance of Industry 4.0 towards the digital transformation of the construction industry through national policies such as National Construction Policy 2023 and Construction 4.0 Strategic Plan 2021-2025. In 2021, the European Commission has introduced Industry 5.0 as an industry that recognises the power of the industry to achieve societal goals beyond jobs and growth to become a provider of prosperity, by making production respect the boundaries of our planet and placing the well-being of the worker at the centre of the production process. It is of paramount importance that Malaysia should start to incorporate Industry 5.0 into the digital transformation of the construction industry in Malaysia. Industry 5.0 aims to transform the technological driven digital transformation to a value driven mass personalisation industry. Industry Revolution 5.0 (IR5.0) complements Industry 4.0 by adopting all the enabling technology of Industry 4.0, while putting focus on human-centric, sustainability and resilient. Digital transformation in the Malaysia construction industry incorporates both Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 by adopting the emerging technologies in the construction industry such as building information modelling, industrialised building system, drone technology and other emerging technologies. It is paramount that the construction industry moves towards digital transformation through the adoption of these technologies. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2025.
